Loooong barcode

Every once in a while, you see a barcode that sticks out. This barcode sticks out. Or across. Or whatever...

  1. I realise this is an old post, all the more so by the internet standards where everything is obsolete within a day or ten, but I just thought I'd throw this in:

In Hofer supermarkets (http://www.hofer.at/) most of the products have similar barcodes. A bag of crisps, for example, has a barcode running all the way from the top of the bag to the bottom. I've asked around a bit why that could be and I've been offered a plausible explanation--it enables the cashiers to scan the products faster as they can simply swipe the entire product over the barcode scanner without too much effort to actually locate the barcode.

    Just my €0.02 :)
